Laser issues in newer versions

Postby loesch » Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:55 pm

I have a Stepcraft D600 and a UC100. I have Stepcrafts DL445 laser along with Opt Lasers 6W beauty, which I don't use ofter since I mostly use my Bodor 100W laser. Needing to do some delicate laser work at lower powers, I found out neither of my lasers worked. I was running UCCNC 1.2110 and 1.2112 (which I love the screenset on) and the lasers were both DOA. With the help of Hugo from Stepcraft/Mexico, I found out that I had to downgrade to 1.2049 to get the lasers to work. He said it had to do with their screenset. However, I'm not using their screenset in 1.2112, and although all of the configuration settings are the same between the two, the lasers still don't work.

Does anyone know what changed in UCCNC after 1.2049 that would have prevented the lasers from operating correctly? I can't seem to find a list of changes by version, only the current version.

Yes. Start the older version and go to Configuration / I/O setup. Write down the Current hi/low setting. Start the new version and select Settings / Axes setup. Select any of the axes and set the Current hi/low to the old settings. Save settings. (This setting changed in the new versions, because now you can set this per axis, while the old had only one setting. The location of the setting was changed in the profile, so it cannot load the old setting. Stepcraft machines work with UC100 and the USB type controllers have the same setting on all axis pages, only the ethernet controllers have separate settings. As I know the Stepcraft machines enable the laser only while the macine is moving, that's why they have this setting.)

That did the trick. I changed the setting in the X-axis and it carried over to both the Y and Z also. The laser now works in 1.2112. Thanks for the tip.
