Prevent controller or jogging from violating soft limits?

Got tired of jogging into my homing switches and having to override limits to move it away. Expecting the software to operate like an industrial CNC controller where it will not allow me to jog past the software limits or even allow me to jog past 0. the machine sees that it is heading towards 0 in a given axis and decelerates to a stop at 0.

Turned on software limits but this allows me to violate the software limits still. Once I do this I'm not even sure how to override softlimit and jog back into the acceptable movement area. Have to restart software and re-home. How do I get it to function as I described?

not much help but I would guess something is not quite right with your settings as my machine after homing will not let you go past soft limits but no problem jogging back away from them no need to reset or restart

Yes, it works like that, it stops on the softlimits when jogging.
I think your problem is that the machine was not stopped or you having offsets.
Please remember that the softlimits can be only correct if the machine is properly homed and it is in machine coordinates!

It took me a little time to figure it out, but by setting up the home offsets and soft limits properly, it works well.
I think I set my home offsets to -0.25 inches and the soft limit to 0.
Clearly you want to hit your soft limit before the limit switch.
Also, when your g code calls a G53, you don't want it to drive past your soft limits.
