New user and probing advice

Postby deepdivetc » Wed Jun 19, 2019 4:41 am

I am looking to buy a unit to set tool zero on the z axis. My brother has a really hard time seeing the small distances and I was looking to buy a tool setter that actually depresses and either opens or closes a switch as the z axis comes down. I have just now purchased UCCNC and have yet to install it (Coming from Mach 4, not happy with available info) Also moving from a ESS to the UC300eth. I would just like to know do I buy a tool setter that is normally open or normally closed. I would assume normally open, just checking my logic. Thank you everyone.

It does not really matter, you can configure it normally open or normally closed in the UCCNC, it is the probe input active low checkbox....

Thank you, I was thinking that, but did not want to order the wrong thing.

the normally closed type is better as you can confirm the probe is ready (ie switch closed, all wires intact)
i have them on all my machines. makes life easy!
repeat accuracy at 0.005mm using double probe technique

Double tapping the probing for accuracy would be a great discussion someday.

Terry
While I was told it shouldn’t make any difference it definitely does
I recorded and averaged over 1000 hits both single and double tap.
Accuracy at least 30% better repeatedly.

Hi Battwell are you using teh #var trip values or teh stopped axis values. Testing here using teh trip point values between 2ipm and 20imp shows 0.0000 > 0.0002 variance over a LOT of probe calls. That is inside teh repeatability of the probe used

THat includes touch offs and center of spaces and diameter measurements.

NOW if you were using teh axis stop values yes teh faster you go the larger your values will be. NOTE that that is not an error. IF you calibrate your probe to run at high feedrates then it will be accurate as long as you use teh same feedate value.

With using teh #vars for trip point values I see no difference between 2-20 imp feedrates.

Just a thought, (;-) TP
