Gantry Squaring - Proximity Switch

Postby appiuccnc » Mon Jun 27, 2022 7:33 am

Hello Guys

I had been struggling with squaring my gantry, I am using the A Axis slaved to the X axis to move the gantry with a proximity switch for the X and one for the A.

The gantry would return to " home " ( when commanded to ) on both axes but the A side would not move back off the limit switch.

Turns out the problem was the A axis switch was overshooting the target so it would read as homed but wasn't.

The fix was to make the target longer, so the sensor detected the target continuously, the gantry would move off the target then move any offset distance to square up the gantry - simple.

I hope this helps anyone else looking for the solution.

Thanks very much for that information.

That's very interesting, because when homing I believe that as soon as the home switch is triggered the motor reverses to back off the switch.

I would have thought UCCNC would raise a fault if the home switch was triggered but then "un-triggered" before the axis had reversed direction. Perhaps UCCNC just thinks it's a very long contact bounce.
