So... how does this ethernet connection work?

I'm very new to this UCCNC stuff, and just bought an AXBB-E with licence. I'm collecting it all tomorrow, but, thinking out loud, I'm curious as to how they're meant to be connected via an ethernet cable.

I'm currently using LinuxCNC (grrrrrrrr.......) using the parallel port connected to a Gecko G540. My old PC only has one ethernet socket and doesn't have wifi, so if I connect the ethernet port to the AXBB-E, I won't have internet access while I'm using the CNC router?

I guess I'll have to use a different computer if I want internet access while 'milling'?

1) Most will tell you you shouldn't be surfing the internet while the computer is running a machine.
2)If you insist on doing it, get a PCI ethernet or wifi card, or USB wifi adapter.

Well, yes, it is not adviced to do heavy computing stuff, surfing the internet etc. while the software is machining, however I'm always doing that and never had a problem. :)
And you can connect the AXBB-E to a network card in your computer or you can connect it to a lan network to a network router/switch and connect that to the computer.
Just one important thing is to not use wifi communication for the AXBB-E connection. I mean you should not use a wifi module in the computer and a wifi router which then connects to the AXBB-E with wire, because then the communication will be with wifi between the router and the computer and the AXBB-E requires a wired connection to the computer, no matter if it is direct connection or via router(s), but it has to be all wired.

I have 2 Ethernet ports… so one is solely for my AXBB-E, and the other is for my network and internet.
I don’t know if this is actually beneficial to performance, but that’s what I had so that’s what I did.

I finally got the AXBB-E and eventually got it running. I initially had it connected to the PC via a router, thinking I could still be connected to the internet that way.

Wrong...

Now I've got a second pc set up in the shed for noodling and the UCCNC pc is just for the CNC machine.

Cheers.

That's the idea.
Cheap laptop, on it's own, kept offline away from viruses and Windows update.
