The only thing I do not know is if the internal 5V voltage regulator which makes 5V from the 24V has any issues with 12V instead of 24V, however the worst case scenario is still that it will not output voltage and it might give audible sound.
So, the worst case scenario still will not damage anything on your board, so there is basically no risk.
If there were risk for damage then ofcourse I would tell what you said...
