Help wiring THC

Postby Spoolnms » Sun Oct 27, 2019 7:43 pm

Am looking to wire up a probe to allow G31 to execute the probe function. How would I wire this into the UCCNC breakout board without backfeeding voltage into the boards? On a side note, I am also using Sheetcam, and its forcing me to use G31/G28.1, anyway to disable this function so I don't need the probe at all.

There is no such thing as "UCCNC breakout board." I don't know what breakout board do you have?
What do you mean by "without backfeeding voltage into the boards"?

I have the ETH300 and C10S breakout boards. After the probing is done, and plasma start's its arc, voltage would then be backfed from the wire coming from the probe (ground on plasma torch) to the board, thus would cause it damage

Or is there a way to disable the G31/G28 command so that I can manually set 0 (top of work piece) and sheetcam will bring up the torch to the set height and allow THC to function properly that way?

You do not use a touch probe for the Top of Material sensing with plasma. You normaly use a floating Z and switch to do that. with that setup you can use either the G31 or G28.1 to run the function. Using the G31 function allows you to still have a Z home at the top of stroke in Z.

And yes you CAN not use a Top of Material routine and just touch off each time BUT you will find that is a royal pain to have to do all the time compared to a proper setup.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

Yes, floating Z with a switch is the way to go, we built our plasma machine the same way.

Without redoing the torch mount/motor setup, any other way without a floating z with a switch?

Is there a way to just set the height manually (aka touch the work piece), sheetcam will automatically pull it up x amount (what its programed to do) and have the THC just go from there and sense cutting voltage and adjust accordingly?

Yes you can if that is what you want to do.
