Long ago I did have a pendant setup and running Modbus with UCCNC BUT it was based on a MODIO unit from Peter Homman.

AND if I rememeber correctly CNC4PC had a Modbus pendant board(Arduino shield) to be used with one of their pendants. AND i had teh UCCNC code to support it.

Is this a bit risky ? Using 5v, then less, then less, then less for the remaining positions.
Doesn't look to be as safe as regular switches at the 24V inputs. Or 24V at the PLC and using Modbus.
Just wondering. An accidental shift in the increment could crash a tool while sneaking up. Or from one axis to another.
It wouldn't take much of a voltage swing to do something unexpected.
Seems to be a risk there, ... maybe ?
What do you think ?

The switches only create function calls they do not generate motion. BUT yet you use a MPG which is powered by 5vdc and it DOES create motion as well as your step and direction is 5vdc ?? And you trust them ??

This MPG is actually wired 12V.
But I see your point.
However, the MPG issues 1 pulse per click. Its what the voltage dividers on the 5V analog inputs produces that only varies by a volt, or less that concerns me ... maybe ? Just wondering,

Just for the sake of discussion, say you divide the 5V analog into 6 positions representing the 6 axis's.
Any 1V change in the input would switch axis on ya, whether you initiate it or not.
Possibly while you're cruising along with the MPG in Cont. mode.
So, it doesn't seem like we are trusting 5V, it seems we must trust 1V ... (or less).
I know you know what I am meaning, it just looks to me like the potential for possible disaster. :?
Maybe the macro would have some sort of fail safes built in ?

Hi Russ I have a hand pendant that has been running for over 10 years without a problem that uses 0-5v divided 3 ways for one selection and 10 ways for a second selection. AND runs a MPG (5v) I have not seen any problem yet but I cannot say it would never happen to a poorly sheilded setup. I have not seen teh problem here.
