Rigid tapping encoder pulse

Postby Battwell » Fri Jul 20, 2018 12:18 pm

At the moment I have 10000 count encoder step/ direction servo spindle set up
To get a reliable actual speed reading I had to half the counts of ab back to uccnc ab channel (3500 rpm)
I have z pulse also from the encoder- into index input.
The z pulse isn’t gated with ab so raw 1/10000 at the moment .
Re rigid tapping that is going to be at low rpm. Is this pulse likely to be long enough?
By the way -it’s tracking speed superbly now

The answer was no - even though I could see the z pulse on break out board it just sits waiting.
Got it going using original spindle sensor.

What about making a simple pulse extender circuit?
Like this: http://www.555-timer-circuits.com/monostable-555.html
Or making one with a microcontroller or Arduino etc.

ive tested it up to 1000 rpm on the original npn spindle index sensor- and its ok.
i had to half the ab encoder signal output (from 2500 line to 1250 line) otherwise it wasnt reading the correct speed at max rpm of 3500 rpm.. i did this with a divider in the drive.
same with steps per rotation in- or i couldnt get the 3500 rpm- even at 400khz kernel @2500 lines per rev. had to drop to 1250 lines/rev.
so for now- im happy enough. ive left it running for the last 2 hours- seems ok.
(i have a customer waiting for the machine ) but a lot of testing and tidying up to do first.
re rigid tapping- its not something ive ever done myself before. had to refer to the manual to learn to code it. haha!

I have an index pulse triggered by an NPN proxy (plastic collar with steel set screw in collar). Completely separate from the motor encoder as I'm not runing a 1:1 belt ratio.

Works like magic for initiating the synchronized spindle (tapping) if you can't get your encoder Z pulse working right. Peck taps all day long at 1kRPM and no buggered threads.

That’s the original setup except its 1:1 ratio
I’m using that for my index pulse now.
Left it on test for about 3 hours - ok
