8x4 meters machine

Postby cncdrive » Wed Nov 08, 2017 5:42 pm

We just finished the building of a large 8x4 meters workspace machine, so I thought to share some photos.
The machine is to cut and drill large insulation sheets.
The control is UC400ETH with UCCNC with some special macros and closed loop stepper drives on the axes and servos on the spindles.
The machine has 2 heads, one with a spindle motor and the other is a disk cutter. The disk cutter can rotate 90°, so it can cut along the X or the Y axis.

That's impressive!
You need to pack a lunch to walk from one end to the other :)

I especially like the estop button on the side of the control cabinet. Is that the corner you hide behind the first time you fire off that saw:)

Yes, exactly. :)
But talking seriously, there are multiply estop buttons, you can see one on the side of the gantry and there is another on the other side.
The saw is not spinning fast, the max. speed they use it is about 300 RPM, because the saw diameter is large (400mm) and so the cutting speed is still fast on low RPM and the material they cut is soft, so it is not at all hazardous and the saw is covered with the metal frame enclosure and with thick plexi glass in it.
And one more thing is the saw plate is really thick, inside it is 18mm wide if I recall and is from steel, so there is no way that the disk breaks, even if it is stopped by brute force from the max. 300RPM hittin into something, the disk is so thick that it will not break.

And it's not me on the picture. :)
