Low-profile vises

Postby spumco » Mon Dec 03, 2018 5:08 am

So I've wanted a couple of these for my trunnion table ever since I first laid eyes on them. Center fixed jaw is dowel-pinned to match the table hole pattern so I can take off one adjustable side and get about 12" of part clamped up.

UCCNC ran flawlessly.

Long holiday weekend and a pile of chips later, here we go:

That looks great.

I need to do something like this as well for my trunnion table. Are those bite style clamps.

Miteebite pitbulls on the adjustable side, and talon grips on the fixed jaw. For scale, the jaws are 4" wide so 4x 3/4" pitbulls fit nicely.

Also made some smooth steel and brass jaws for the fixed side and will get or make some flat-nose or brass pitbulls eventually.

Update on the vises: first use of the clamps worked like a charm.

Holding a fixture for a pistol barrel - the barrel is too long to fit in a vise with parallels, but this worked rather well. Highly recommend building or buying a set of these vises.

Very nice. I've had 3 blocks of aluminum cut and sitting around for months now with the CAD/CAM done to make them and bought several of the TinyVise clamps. Everytime I turn around something else comes up and when I do have time, too damn lazy...LOL. Since I have so little Z travel, they would serve me well. Just gotta get off it and make a few sets. :(
