New machine build

I thought I'd share my completed new machine build.

Basic machine layout is a Bulkman Queen Bee, the quality of which is great, certainly for the price. Ordered as just the 'mechanical kit' with motors, my overall goal was to produce a visually appealing machine and I'm quite pleased with the end result.

As space is somewhat limited in my 'Man-Cave', I decided to flip the two Y axis motors and the X axis motor 180 degrees to reduce the overall depth and width. Once the mechanical side of things had been completed, I migrated most of the electronic components from the previous machine, and completed the control enclosure. 3D printed parts were used extensively to enhance the visual apperance. I designed and machined a new vacuum table and topped it off with an MDF spoilboard.

I also added a pneumatically-operated tool-rack for the ATC, a Tool Length Probe and Laser Cross Hair. The existing 21" touch screen was updated with (yet another!) a new screenset.

The machine is used predominantly for milling thin plastic sheet materials for model making.

Nice looking machine. What spindle do you have?

The spindle is a Kress (now AMB) 1050. Just on and off from a relay output. It also has a Sorotec ATC attachment. I was hoping to include an ATC Mechatron or Spinogy spindle but couldn't justify the investment, as this is just a hobby.

I mainly machine thin plasticard sheets for model-making, from 0.5mm to 7mm, with relatively simple toolpaths such as pockets, drilling, engraving and contouring.
