Power for UC400ETH

Postby Greolt » Wed Aug 23, 2017 11:40 am

Wondering what is the specs of the power supplied at pin 26 port 1, on the UC400ETH

UC400ETH powered by 12v 1.5amps

Wanting to power a BOB from pin26 on the IDC connector.

The BOB does not give any indication of the wattage that it requires. Guessing maybe as much as 500 mA

I guess as is often the case I worded my question poorly. I will try again.

As per the user manual for the UC400ETH, pin 26 has 5v available to power a BoB or maybe some other peripheral.

The pinout is the same as the pinout of a standard LPT port in addition the 26. pin (there is
no 26.pin on the LPT port) has a 5Volts power output.

If the UC400ETH is itself powered by 12v 1.5amp what current is pin 26 able to deliver without affecting the controllers operation?

Greg,

The current limit in the stepdown converter is set to around 0.7Amps current and the UC400ETH itself needs about 200mAmps,
so the 5V output you can get on the 26.pin is about 500mAmps max.

I'm about to purchase a UC400ETH, but It was to my understanding that it used a 24 volt power supply. Is this not correct?

Yes, it requires a 24VDC power supply, but the I/Os are not 24V level, they are TTL 0/5Volts.
The controller internally creates the 5Volts and other voltages required for it's operation from the 24Volts input.

And one more thing is that the power supply can be between 12V and 24V, so you may even use a 12V power supply.

OK thanks!

Would this power supply be good to use?

Yes, but a bit overkill in power. 25Watts is still enough @24Volts.
Like this 12V one: http://shop.cncdrive.com/index.php?productID=500
This is actually a miniature sized PSU which might be useful if you have limited installation space.
