Single step jog causing stepper motor shaft to behave wildly

Postby Ddhunt16@icloud.com » Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:59 am

Hoping my can Help:
Recently converted Optimum MH28V mill to CNC using 12N Nema 34 Closed loop stepper motors and HBS86HS Drivers.
When testing for backlash I have noticed that when in single mode the stepper motor shaft turns in one direction then the other quite severely each time the jog button is pressed. However when the continuous jog mode is selected the motor moves smoothly in one direction only (Ie the direction selected)
Is this a problem with the software or the stepper motor or the driver dib switch settings?

I'm not sure if this is affecting the backlash readings which are surprisingly high (0.1 - 0.16mm) given i'm using double ballscrew nuts and angular contact bearings on all axis.

Any help much appreciated.

I have a similar problem and posted it to the Report a Bug section, but I have no answer.

Did you solve your problem?

Zed_UCCNC: You got an answer that my collegue will check it. Please understand that we cannot do everything immediately. Debugging and figuring things out often needs some time.

Dbhunt16: Try adjust the comp.acceleration parameter for the axis higher.

"adjust the comp.acceleration parameter": No very violent jerking of steppers.

I understand software fixes take time, this post in this thread was to ask if my procedure for a workaround was OK?

No, setting the comp acceleration will not cause any jerk, it will just higher the acceleration in backlash compensation.
