need pwm signal for controlling co2 laser

Postby Koen Vissers » Sat Jan 05, 2019 6:52 pm

Hi all

i try to explain what I need.

I try to control a co2 laser via UCCNC soft and hardware.
I use the UCBB breakout board with the UC 400 ETH
Everthing work fine except I cant get a propre PWM signal to control the power.

What I did , I took two outputs. 1 I use for sending the M3 signal to the power supply to say ok please start up your pcb ;) power supply waits now for a signal of the PWM or manual with pot meter.

With potmeter I can control the power no problem but cant get the signal.

I used the second output from the BB but the problem (so far I think) is that all the outputs are NEGATIVE powered and the signal I need for the power supply is possitive.

This is a picture of the classic power supplies for CO2 laser.

Is there somebody who can point me in the correct direction.

Please dont talk to technical about electronics because I don't understand  If I need special extra hardware please tell me.

Thanks already

Are you using M10 pxxx for the own signal?

Have you defines the laster output?

Hi All

@ rob

Yes I use the M10 Q...
I also define the correct laser pin on the i/o setup page.

I've used a diode laser on my cnc before (exept was a different BB) I wrote down all the settings in a reference book, if the machine crash I have a back up on paper ;)
So I use that now to program again :)

But the problem is here that the output is negative from the BB and the laser need 0-5v positive signal.

Maybe stupid question, but can I take signal directly from the flat ribbon cable that connects the UC 400 with the BB?
I use pin 1 from second port, so thats the first RED wire, If I use this directly from the controller to the signal wire????
Just a tought offcourse Im not an electronic wizard

Thx already for looking into the problem.

http://cncdrive.com/MC/UC400ETH%20datas ... manual.pdf

You can take the signal directly from the uc400 (page 18/21), BUT,

Each output pin has a maximum current rating of 20mA
The outputs are not isolated, so if you exceed the 20mA you may kill your uc400.

The outputs out of the uc400 are TTL, so the high signal will be 5v and the low signal will be 0v
