Tool length off set

Postby andrewbishop66 » Wed May 30, 2018 9:53 pm

So I made some tts style holders for my mill and they worked ok so I 've started using tool offset instead of measuring each tool as I go

so this is how I did it

set G92 to the length of my 3d taster but in the negative
set tool length to length of 3d taster in the positive
z down until taster reads zero

zero Z dro
then the tools were measured using a hight gauge and the lengths entered into the tool table as positive numbers and it works fine

run the following file without any problems making 4 of the item

So I thought great I can maybe get a macro to measure and fill in the tool table which Terry kindly did for me

and it fills in the tool table fine but the numbers are wrong nothing wrong with the macro it does exactly what it supposed to do
if I run a tool probe routine I get exactly the same numbers

so it has to be either me or something in my profile screwing it up so if someone could just have a look at my profile just to check or is there an idiots guide to setting up tool length offsets
the method I describe above is considered the master tool method the 3d taster being the master tool
just some lengths if it helps
taster = 120.6 mm to gauge line
end mill =65.23 to gauge line but measures on probing touch plate @ negative 51.73
