Can Windows language settings affect screensets?

Postby ger21 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 10:42 am

I have a user in South Korea that was attempting to use my 2017 Screenset, but he was getting a screen load error. He tried on multiple PC's, and the screen would not load until he changed the language in Windows from Korean to English. Any idea what would cause this? I can send the screen to you if you need to look at it.

Hi Gerry,

It is hard to tell without testing and debugging it.
If you could send me a copy of the screenset then I will try to debug it.
Also please let me know what Windows is it? And which UCCNC software version was used?

Gerry, I received your e-mail and have downloaded and installed your screenset.
And downloaded and installed the Korean language pack.
Ran your screenset several times but it runs fine here with the Korean language, no errors.
I'm attaching a printscreen so you can see that my Windows is now Korean.

The only thing left is to figure out how to change the language back when the menus are now all Korean in my Windows.

One idea I have is that I will try to make a log file creation and writting the exception details there in case of a screenset error, so if your customer will run that on his system then we will see some details about what the exception and the problem is.
However this may take some time, I mean it will be not done the next day for sure.

He changed the language to English, and it works, so he just left it like that. I don't know if you can have two different languages?

Yes, you can have multiply languages installed, but can have only one enabled which is then the language of Windows.

I can try to uninstall the English language pack and leave only the Korean to see if anything changes.

And I have one idea that maybe the Arial Font is missing from the Korean language pack which is just an idea, but since the Korean language using Korean character set maybe it uses totally different Fonts.
Unfoturnately I can't test this, because I do not have a pure Korean Windows and probably Windows will not remove the already installed Fonts even if I will uninstall the English language pack, but I will test the English language uninstallation to see...

And I also think that it would be a good idea to ask the Korean customer to test if there is still an error now that he has the English language pack installed and if he now switching back to the Korean language.
