Installed UC400ETH...losing steps.

Postby arla » Tue Mar 12, 2019 7:00 pm

I have just changed the motion controller on my cnc router from usb smoothstepper to UC400ETH and now the precision is horrible. It seems like for some reason I'm losing steps with the UC400ETH. The only change made to the system is choosing a different motion controller in Mach3 and installing the UC400. What can possibly be different in the UC400ETH compared with the usb SS making it behave like this?? I have also tried a UC100...same problem.

I'm running Mach3 -> UC400ETH -> G540 -> some china motors.

So, it seems like the G540 do not like 100kHz step rate which is the default setting in the software plugin. I changed to 25kHz and now it is working fine. Not sure why I need to run on the lowest setting with the UC400ETH. The setting for the SS usb was 256kHz...maybe someone can explain :?

I don't really have an answer for that, only that your drive with your PSU voltage and motors and microstepping settings can't do that high frequency, but maybe you remember to another settings in your SS, it has a loop setting, isn't that what you remember as 256Hz and not kHz? That is a different setting and not the kernel frequency, it is a totally different thing.
I mean are you sure that your SS was set to 256kHz step frequency?
