first time cnc build

Postby tracar » Sun Jun 18, 2017 7:14 pm

i have to say i like the uccnc software, and the uc300eth board, this is my first with a setup such as this.
in the past i was building 3d printers and stuff, now i want to make something better :)

to start off, the motors and drives are this
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym% ... Manual.pdf
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym%20Support/Drive%20Motors/AlphaStep%20Manual.pdf
with the connector as such on page 34

the spindles are driven by :
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym% ... Manual.pdf
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym%20Support/Spindles%20Motors%20and%20Inverters/AC%20Tech%20SCF%20Inverter%20Manual.pdf
the router has a 2 spindles, marked "z" and "4"

my controller is the uccnc software and uc300eth, plugged directly to the machbob2 board,,,, port 1,2 swapped and port 3 remains 3.. to the bob..

So the question is , in the X-Axis setup page in the uccnc software, i have the step pin set to "2" port "2" / dir "3" port "2"
whichtranslates to bob output pins : xs-, xs+, xd-,xd+ to correctly wire this to the driver what pins on page 34 should be connected.

is it recommended to connect the encoder side of things up ?
below are the driver encoder output and pin numbers, but dont know weather to use the open collector or line driver outputs, and of course where to connect to the bob....

13 BSG1
14 GND
B-phase pulse output Open-collector
Output
15 ASG1
16 GND
A-phase pulse output Open-collector
Output
17 BSG2
18 BSG2
B-phase pulse output Line driver
Output
19 ASG2
20 ASG2

all the info is from here:

I believe that it goes like this:
xs+ = pin 11
xs- = pin 12

xd+ = pin 9
xd- = pin 10

You need to set the pulse input mode to 1 pulse.

You don't need the other connections, unless you plan on writing a macro to monitor them.

ok, that makes sense.

i was unsure about the encoder stuff, as the machine sits, if i run a program with its original controller card and pause it , and push any of the axis out of place, they go back to the original position on its own..

would you have info on connecting the vfd ?

VFD---MB2

2 - AL
5 - AO
6 - AH

12 - NO1
2 - CM1

UCCNC doesn't support two spindles. Are you using 1 or two VFD's?
I'll be using two spindles when I get my new router built, using a single VFD. I'll be using contactors and custom macros to switch between spindles.

The unit has 2 vfd's and 2 zaxis spindles,
I was looking at ways to use the second vfd, like you said, a relay setup will work ... or rs-485 comunications might be an option for specific vfd'$...

I've only wired simple pushbutton for testing, but I'll probably be using X110-X115.

Im so close to installing the controller and bob into the router, its been fun learning and reading endless topics just to ensure i dont mess up, lol

All that is left to finger out is where to put the SPD from the bob to the vfd lol

The rest i think will be easy, doing the connections and configuring endpoints and directions and such.

I have the external touch pad for the vfd, so i dont really need the uccnc to control the spindle, but it would be nice to have it automated.. I have er25 collet sets on the way ,, ebay.
Now to find a suplier for endmills and stuff.

BTW does anyone know of a better jog pendant , wired , and works with uccnc
