Rack and pinion.... Setting steps...

Postby Robertspark » Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:27 pm

Say I have a mod 1 rack with a 20 tooth pinion, direct driven by a stepper motor (200 full steps) with the driver set at 10 micro steps ....

That would be
62.8318530718 units (mm) per stepper motor revolution and 0.03141592654 units (mm) per step.... Given rounding errors .... How much resolution should I enter.... Just wondering what the accuracy of uccnc is on these odd ball steps per unit ratios. (I've been lucky with round numbers until pi got in the way with rack and pinions)

Opinions welcome thanks

I did it several times while axis calibration until I got confidence enough. I did it for short distance and long distance, say 3cm and 100 cm. I never do some calculation.
