Curious DRO behavior

Postby spumco » Sun Aug 26, 2018 7:12 am

So I'm letting the new plasma drive in circles to break in the bearings, rails and so forth and noticed something strange happening with the DRO's. I've programmed a simple circle and edit the L word based on how long I want it to drive around before checking everything.

G1 X25 Y750 F15000
M98 P1000 L(xx)
M30

O1000
G2 I650 F15000
M99

If I set it to a small number of repeats - like 10 - the axis DRO's behave normally.

If I set it to a very high number - like 100 repeats - the axis DRO's don't track properly while the code is running. They count up and down, but the DRO refresh rate is jerky. They go up (or down) a few digits then skip ahead, like they can't keep up with the position.

This happens in both the default and Neuron profile. Does not happen when jogging at any speed, or simple MDI commands.

There is no problem with the motion; everything is smooth as glass. And if I stop the program the DRO's stop counting up/down and are right where they should be.

Graphics issue?

What pc spec are you running?
Windows version
Processor
Ram
Graphics ram
Graphics card?

(May be graphics side issue with buffering repititious motion?)

PC - Intel N2930 1.83GHz (Zotac Z-box Ci320 nano)
RAM - 4G
Graphics - Onboard Intel HD
Graphics RAM - ???
Win 8.1

I ran this computer for quite some time on my mill with some very large 3D surfacing programs and didn't notice the same issue. It's now been wiped & drivers updated and re-purposed for the Plasma table.

Why didn't I think of that?

I'll see if it does it in offline mode too.

The plot thickens...

Tried Terry's experiment and just pasted the same G2 over and over.

Neuron profile:
1. 3 or 4 repetitions the DRO's got very slightly jerky. The more repetitions, the worse it gets. More than 10-20 and it's extremely noticable. At 50+ repeats the DRO's are about a second behind the actual position.
2. Same thing happens with the M98 version of the program.

Default profile:
1. Starts getting jerky at about 10 cut/past repetitions
2. Noticable at 20+.

I take back what I wrote earlier - if the program causing jerky DRO's is loaded then all movement (jogging, homing, MDI) results in jerky DRO's.

Perhaps you are now using a different video driver, which doesn't work as well as the old one did?

Still doing it at 2000mm/m. FRO set to 10% also does it.

So far, the bigger the file the worse it gets.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/produc ... -2-16-GHz-

Drivers here

The n2930 uses an integrated graphics chip within the CPU and shared ram.... It's not the best of any world sorry

You can put up to 8 go of ram in it, which is what I would do / have done

I use a similar fanless pc with an n3150

Adjusting the BIOS and the dedicated amount of ram for graphics may help
