This VFD yes?.

I'll have a look at it. May be fine without a relay but I personally would always use one (or an optocoupler module) for vfd or servo drive.

This VFD seems that it does not have a separeate analog and digital GND which is not really good, because then you have to connect the 5V0 and 24V0 together to make it work.

That is a good oversight!.
Could he try this workaround below?.

Use the non isolated outputs for switching instead.
Port1-output# to FWD and the 5VO from port1 going to GND.
Then you have 2* 5VO on shared vfd GND rather than having a 5v and a 24v?.

This is why I always suggest using a relay for switching fwd!!!!!.

Relay:
24v+ to RL+, output# to RL-.
VFD fwd to RL/NC, VFD gnd to RL/com.
(ssr are usually marked something like pin 1+&2- instead of nc/com)
Fwd+,1/gnd-,2
That solves the whole problem.

You can get a simple DC ssr relay from amazon for cheap.

Or get a cheap 2 pin switch between fwd/gnd and switch it manual.

Relay looks like this:

I ordered the exact same relay as in the pic a 5 - 60vdc and they have sent a 5-200vdc will it matter.

You will have to change a few parameters on the vfd first don't forget.
Max freq, to not overrun the rpm.
Min freq, to prevent creeping at 0v analog.
Control style being ued.
Etc.

5-200v Relay will be fine. As long as the voltage range being used is covered by its spec. In your case 12v/24v is covered both sides.

Brilliant m8, will give that a go in morning.
Cheers for all the help.

Hi m8, wired as you suggested, runs in reverse,on the little control panel it tells you what A=operating current H=operating frequency E= DONT KNOW T= DONT KNOW right the A read 0.267 and it stopped H read 38.8 and E read 175.7 it also read error 1 short circuit/current overload so think my parameters wrong somewhere, will go over them all later.
Cheers

Hmmmm. These are a pita when it comes to perameters. Prob why I steered clear of routers.
Will have a look at the peram and see if there's owt obvious.
There's likely one there that changes set direction (like on servos). You could try swapping the fwd connection to rev and see if that works as a workaround.

Just be sure the Spindle is going the right way and not too slow to burn it out.
