As I said it does not matter if the input will be left unopen, if the input is left unopen then the input is in the inactive state, because then there is no electric current flow from input+ to input- terminals of the AXBB-E.
And no you don't have to connect any resistors to 24Volts.

I have now connected it as Alternative 2 and it works.
I dont understad how you mean that the input becomes active high if I dont do like this (and dont invlolve the 24V).
